Giving Thanks Friday
This week (and last week) I am thankful for:
Electricity. Last Friday we were without power, which also includes being without running water since we need the electricity to power our pump. I tell ya, it makes one VERY thankful for the basics we often take for granted.
Our little generator. It's not big enough to power everything but will get us a few basics which are much appreciated when it's a chilly 20 degrees out.
Our daughter's hair cutting skills. As cheer coach during basketball season she has a full plate, with 9 teenagers invading her space on an almost daily basis, but still makes time to make her mama look better : )
Beautiful pink sunrises and skies filled with puffy clouds.
Generosity that is seen in so many forms this time of year including some neighbors who save up their change all year long just to bless a family in need at Christmas.
Warm, cozy gloves to wrap up my freezing fingers.
A dusting of snow covering all the ugly in beautiful - just like Jesus does for us.

I am thankful for my little nephews performing in their Christmas concert this year. Watching them filled my heart with joy!

DeleteI am thankful for my warm socks, because it's been very cold here. I am thankful for white Christmas lights- they just make things pretty. Thankful that my husband makes coffee every morning. :) Glad you have a generator. A couple of years ago we had a bad ice storm and were without power for almost three weeks, and a wonderful friend loaned us a generator. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE white Christmas lights too! Oh my, 3 weeks is such a long time to be without power. The longest we have been is about a week or so and lost everything in our refrigerator and freezers. We have coastal wind a lot and seem to be without for a day or so quite often, thus the generator purchase...Appreciate you being here : )

DeleteI love the snow covering the ugly just like Jesus covers our ugly! I have so much to be thankful for, yet I still find myself complaining more than I should. Thank you for the reminder to focus on my blessings.

DeleteHi Mindy! I am thankful for snow (of which we got a few inches today), but also for the road crews who make the streets safe. I am also thankful for my electricity, I know what it's like to have an outage. But no water? That is above and beyond! You are a trooper, Mindy :)

DeleteIt is quite a different experience to have no running water. I remember when I pipes froze one Winter and we were without water for at least 5 days - wow, what a time! It made me very thankful for running water :)

ReplyDeleteno electricity at 20 degrees?!?! brrr!!! i hope you have a fireplace, wood stove? yikes! and without water... ugh. so many homes around our area are on wells and have the same problem. i always feel so badly for them when we are without power for days due to hurricanes and school goes back in session before they have power back! no fair!

Dawn - I always feel guilty complaining about no power for a day or so when I know people go weeks and some don't even have access to power or clean water. The sunrise a few mornings ago was just beautiful!
DeleteLove your thankful list, Mindy! We were without power a couple of winters ago for 4 days. We were so thankful for our generator that allowed for us to have a few comforts. Our neighbor lady refused to leave her home even though lots of people offered their homes to her. She spent 4 long days and nights with not electricity and only heat from her oven. Dangerous and scary and lonely.
ReplyDeleteDuring one storm we were trapped in our home with no power or water for a few days due to a flooded highway one direction and a rock slide the other. The only way out was several miles through the woods with downed trees but eventually we chose to get out for a couple days. It's hard to leave your comfort zone sometimes - even with the comfort gone! Your neighbor is blessed to have kind people with offers : )
