Early this spring we (and by we I am mean Mr. Husband) dismantled one of our raised beds, that I grew flowers in last season, and moved it to location that worked better for us.  We (ahem) also transferred a portion of the soil that was in the bed before topping it off with a mixture of new soil and compost.

I (yes, really me) planted rows of carrots, radishes and lettuces.  As they began to sprout I also began noticing what appeared to be weeds but on closer inspection wasn't so sure.  Being the gentle gardener that I am, I let them stay for the time being.

As the weeks went by it was obvious that these babies were indeed flowers that had sprouted from the transferred soil and, although their little kindergarten selves were scattered about randomly, they would stay.

Time marched on and the now gangling leaves were at the awkward junior high stage, learning to mingle with others (the veggies) and I was in love.  A few more weeks and they were ready to graduate high school and blossom into young adulthood.

This brings us the present where many of these beauties are ready to leave the nest, or raised bed as the case may be, and make their way into the world - which just happens to be our living room (grin).

Calendula volunteers looking lovely in their upcycled vase.

This week I am thankful for:

Wispy white clouds floating on a sea of blue.

Sharing my garden space with the hummers and the buzzers.  (Side note:  When my husband and I were dating my Granddad had a "chat" with my then boyfriend wanting to know if he knew about THE birds and the bees.  Humiliating at the time but oh so funny now!)

The lovely, young 90 year old lady I got to hang out with during the long wait at the eye doctor's office.  She reminded me a bit of one of my Grandma's.  So thankful she shared a bit of her life with me.

Return of the butterflies.  We used to have so many around but the population seemed to dwindle.  This year they are back in full force in several varieties.  Hooray!

A lazy, rainy day perfect for catching up on laundry and such.

The dentist who was able to fix my fractured tooth easily, with no local anesthetic even AND on the same day they found it.

Do-over's (grace)!

What are you thankful for?

May your weekend be filled with wonder, laced with peace and bursting with love...

(Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good: his love endures forever. Psalm 118:1)

This week I am thankful for:

The first stalks of rhubarb gathered from the garden and baked into a crunchy, fruity crisp warm from the oven and topped with cold vanilla ice cream.  Sigh...

Birthday celebrations for my Dad(#75 - where has the time went) and our son-in-law (very far from #75).  Love them both so much.

The perfect breeze on a mild day of sunshine - perfect for laundry on the line.

The kind young Japanese men (each with their own cart full of groceries) insisting I go ahead of them in line with a repeated outstretched hand gesturing toward the check out and an insistent, "Please".  Due to a severe language barrier my response was a return gesture of a smile and a simple, "Thank you".

The first strawberries of the season picked fresh from our patch, rinsed and eaten as is.

A day of "puttering" (Do people even use that word anymore?).  Days are often full of chores and errands and on and on...but a day with nothing I really "have" to do allows me to putter about, rearrange and straighten without cleaning, browse the internet for ideas rather than paying bills, read, rest and dream.

My own web address for the blog (and grateful help with it - thanks Linda).  You can now find me at adandeliondiary.com or continue to use the blogspot address as well.

There is
a
springtime awakening

all around.

Signs of life in abundance.

Plantings ripening,

ready even.

Springtime comes
in weather,
and
in life,
after a long winter.

It brings with it hope,
and life
and newness.

In Creation.

In me.
